By Tohan Omorodion Alexander the Great was one of the most successful men in history. That is part of the reason “Great” was added to his name. Alexander conquered most of the known world, during his time, by the age of 33. How do you think he was able to do this? Alexander the Great had the power to succeed. At an early age he knew that he was destined for greatness. However, he also knew that it would not just come to him, and certainly not easily. Through his drive and strength of mind, Alexander was able to succeed in his ambitions. And guess what? You can too. "The will to conquer is the first condition of victory"- Ferdinand Foch Okay, so I am not trying to say you should try to conquer the known world. However, I am saying that you can have the confidence that makes us feel like you can take on anything. This starts with developing a drive. Alexander would have never even stepped out of his country without having a drive for greater things. This is the same for us. Your path to success will be short lived if you do not have a sense of drive. Success does not come easy, so you cannot be lazy. If laziness starts to take over, you just won’t get far. Drive is what gets us up and going in the morning. It is what helps us get over the hurdles of everyday life! Developing a drive may be the single most important way to succeed.
What about those times that life just smacks us in the face? “When the world says, “Give up,” Hope whispers, “Try it one more time.” Occasionally your life is going to seem out of control, and this makes you want to give up. Listen, because this is important. You cannot give up. Alexander often faced adversity in his lifetime, but he was able to push forward and he never gave up. This is the second most important thing to learn on the path to success. There will undoubtedly be times in your life that seem impossible for us to get through. These are the times when you have to push forward and keep going. Otherwise, you will get bogged down in your woes and never succeed. For Alexander the Great, failure was never an option. He often defeated impossible odds during his conquests. This is the mindset that you have to develop as well. If you take on life thinking about the ways you may fail, then you are more likely to fail. However, if you think of failure as not an option, you are more likely to avoid it. This is sometimes referred to as the power of thinking. The power of thinking is the next crucial part of the path to success. When Alexander was a boy, his mother told him that he was a descendant of the great warrior Achilles. This thought drove Alexander in his battles. He thought that Achilles lived in him, so there was no way that he could be defeated on the battlefield. The power of this thinking is evident as Alexander was virtually never defeated in battle. Was he truly invincible in war? Absolutely not, but the power of his thinking gave him the confidence needed to succeed. However, thinking alone will not get us off of the couch. Do more than think and seek success. You have to seek it more than you seek that enticing show on Netflix. You have to seek success more than you seek a nap. This basically means you have to do the things necessary to accomplish your goals. Hard work, perseverance, determination, resilience, keeping your eye on the goal, and doing something every day that takes you one step closer; these are the characteristics of a winner. Alexander did not only think about success. He sought it. In order for him to conquer the world, he knew he had to defeat his enemies. Every step of the way he was seeking ways to accomplish this. Living success is the fun part. This is where your hard work and perseverance pay off. Alexander was able to live his success. When he entered the city of Babylon, the capital of the Persians, he was treated as a king. He worked hard to get to Babylon. He sought different ways to accomplish this goal and never gave up. He was able to live out his success. You can do that too. When it comes to the success, you think it, you seek it, and you live it. You all have the power to succeed inside of us. Sure, you may never conquer the world like Alexander the Great, but you can conquer your own metaphorical worlds. While you may have hurdles in this life, failure should never be an option. Develop the drive to get out there and live out success.
